Northwest Trek Outing

Last Saturday Alden and I had a lot of fun going to Northwest Trek for a few hours to see some animals.  Alden had been asking for weeks to go see the animals and so it was nice to finally have the time to take him when I felt that I had the energy as well.  It was also nice that although it wasn't sunny while we were there it wasn't too cold either and it wasn't raining.  We spent a few hours there, taking the tram ride to see the open range animals in the middle, so that I could split up the walking.  We had a great time and Alden was so happy to look for the animals and then tell me all about the ones he saw.

I know this is hard to see but there is a lynx hidden in trees in this picture.

Alden loved looking to try and find the animals in all the enclosures.

Alden was excited about seeing the Fishers, even though they were just sleeping.

I think these were one of the most active animals that we saw while we were there.  Alden was so excited to see the raccoons and have them come so close to the window where he was watching.  Here is a video of Alden and the raccoons.

It was fun to see all the free range animals while on the tram.  It was also really nice for me to be able to sit and rest a little between all the walking.
Okay this picture is included only because I had about 15 pictures of this door on my camera when I was going through the photos.  Alden had wanted to take pictures on the tram ride and I let him, but I have no idea why he found the doors so interesting.  I am very grateful for digital cameras at times like this.
Alden loved looking out the window at all the animals as we went by.

It was fun to see these guys actually fighting a little while we were out.  They weren't being too aggressive but Alden thought that it was really cool.
These guys were just hanging out together and relaxing.
Alden liked trying to spot all of the babies in the group.

After we finished the tram ride we finished walking around the rest of the park.  Alden got out and walked some of it.  He had fun exploring a little bit in different parts of the park.

I love our Mommy-Son outings.
The wolves were out and wandering around so Alden had fun watching them for awhile.
Alden had a good view of the wolves when he was standing on this block.  It is really nice that they have these so that I don't have to lift him up.
This was in the Discover Cabin.  Alden had a lot of fun pushing the different buttons to hear the animal sounds.  Alden also made a little bird feeder in here but I forgot to take pictures of him making it but there are some pictures of him with it when he hung it up at home at the end of the post.
Alden walked the whole second half of our visit and at this point he sat down on the bench, looked at me and said "Mommy, I need to rest."  He then proceeded to stay like this for about a minute and then said he was ready to go again.  It was really cute.
Alden was really excited that they had the skunk out so that he could see it up close.

I think it is so cute how Alden has figured out how to use his pockets to keep his hands warm.  I know it is something really small but it is just so sweet.

After we saw the majority of the animals we stopped to eat lunch.  Alden just wanted to eat his granola bar but at least he ate something.
After we ate we went to another cabin where they have lots of things for kids to do and play with.  Alden had a lot of fun playing with the puppets, especially this frog, climbing through the log, looking at some of the live animals in there and exploring.
On the way out of the park Alden wanted to stop and see the big moose before he had to leave.  Alden had a great time seeing all the animals and it was a really nice outing for both of us.

This was Alden showing off his bird feeder before he hung it up the next day.
