5-3 Army Ball

We got to go to a military ball with Drew's unit over the summer, and I made the cakes for the ball so I was busy making and decorating all 3 of the sheet cakes for the two days before the ball.  I actually had a lot of fun making the cakes, even if it was quite a bit of work.  I love baking and I have a lot of fun decorating cakes.  I discovered with these cakes that I hate red frosting and if I never have to make it again I will be totally fine with that, but other than that making and decorating them went great.  I should have realized before I started how difficult making red frosting was going to be, but I just didn't think it through completely.  Oh well, you live and learn and the cakes turned out looking really cool and tasting even better!

I made marbled yellow and chocolate fudge cake.  I tasted awesome (in my opinion)!  It also had a chocolate mousse filling as you can see in one of the pictures above.
Here is the first red cake.  It took a combination of multiple different food coloring colors and LOTS of red food coloring.
So this is the second red cake and then one white one.  (I did finish the red edging on the white cake but I had to run to the store and then I forgot to take another picture).

We took some pictures with some of our friends during a break.  I think it is fun to have an occasion to dress up once in awhile.

It was also really nice to have a night out with my husband.

Now I thought these pictures were funny.  Drew felt so much shorter than Wolf he borrowed a dish bin offered to him by a waitress to feel taller.

It was a fun evening and I am glad that we got to go!
