Olympic National Park

We had a blast walking through some parts of Olympic National Park and we really enjoyed being outside again.  It was a great way to spend our Saturday together right after Valentine's Day.  The weather was supposed to be really good all day but there ended up being a huge storm that was coming in so we hiked around trails until around lunchtime and then left to go home so that we could beat the worst of the storm.  We started on a trail that was supposedly about two miles but less than a mile in there was a huge tree fallen across the trail that we couldn't get around so we had to turn back early.  After that we ended up driving further up the mountain to see some different scenery and some snow.  Then we went down to the visitor's center and hiked another trail near there.  I love being in the outdoors and seeing all the different plants and scenery.

These are some pictures from our first hike.

Alden ended up really liking the backpack once he was in it...he just didn't like getting in.

There were some huge trees along our hike that were fun to see.

This was the tree that blocked our path.  We told the rangers at the visitor's center about it and they said it must have been really recent.

On the right here you can see where the tree fell from.
So happy to be hiking together.
The root system on this fallen tree was really cool.
I loved Alden's awesome hair when we took his hat off.
We stopped at some turn-outs on the way up the mountain.  This was the view from one of them.

This was where we started seeing snow.  Do you see the animal in the picture?

This was the hike that we took near the visitor's center.

This was an interesting bridge to walk across.

There was lots of water in all the streams that we passed while we were hiking.

It was an awesome day of hiking and family time!  Drew and I both love appreciating the outdoors so it was a great place for us to visit and we definitely want to go back and explore more when we get the chance.
