Namdaemun

Okay, so on our first day here in Korea, last Saturday, our family started the day by going to the market at Nandaemum which is about a 15 min walk to the subway and a 15 min ride from where Drew lives. Alden loved the subway and the attention he got from all the Koreans but he really just wanted to hold on to the bar or handle like Daddy did.

It was really neat to walk through streets upon streets of vendors selling various things.  There were people selling clothes, shoes, purses, produce, fried food, other fresh foods and kids toys.  Alden loved watching everything and I just tried to take in as much in as possible.  The only downside to the excursion was the number of people who smoke here which makes the air really nasty in some areas. Other than that, we really enjoyed the outing and taking in the sights as a family.

Those are some funny faces...but they are cute

We also saw this temple that was right outside the Namdaemun market.

On the way back from the market we went onto post and had lunch there after which Drew showed me around post.  It was really interesting to see how the post is so different from any back in the United States that I have been to because they still employ lots of Koreans on post and the post is very un-picturesque compared to some of the others that I have been to.  But, they do have all the same facilities as other posts, even if they have really tight restrictions on the px and commissary (I can't even go inside them) and they have a Subway on post!

This is the view of post from near Drew's apartment.  I will try to take more pictures of post next time I am there.

The building centered in this photo is Drew's apartment building and this is the view from post showing you how close he lives.

Drew informed me that he watched people come and repaint this bridge two weeks ago...This picture does not show it very well but they missed a lot of spots.

Back home again after our first adventure out!
