Jeju Island: Hallasan Mountain, Jungmun Beach and Pacific Land

So, more on Jeju...sorry there are so many posts on Jeju Island but we just stayed so busy there.  On Monday morning we drove to Hallasan National Park in the middle of Jeju Island.  We had decided it would be fun to hike a little bit.  We didn't really know what we were getting ourselves into.  The hike we had chosen (one of the shorter ones) ended up being almost entirely stairs for the first 1.5 km.  I have to admit that we didn't even make it all the way to the top because with one of us carrying Alden we decided it was too much.  I did feel really wimpy though because tons of Koreans who were much older than us kept passing us and making the hike look easy.  I guess I will just have to work harder at being in shape.  Even though we didn't make it to the top we did get some good photos.  Here they are.
Mommy and son all ready to go hiking.

This was the first set of stairs.

And then they kept going.

Drew decided to be stubborn for awhile and try and carry Alden and the backpack.

We let Alden down at one of these little platform areas to play for awhile.  He had fun trying to stomp on all the leaves until they fell through the cracks.  Here is a little video of him playing.  Unfortunately I missed him stomping on the leaves in the video.  This video also shows the stairs.

Oh and by the way, Go Cougars!

Alden decided to take the map and rip it up and then drop it on the ground.

Alden fell asleep on Daddy's back by the time we got back to the car.
The clouds were so dense at the parking lot you couldn't even see across it.  We seemed to see a lot of weather like this in Jeju.

Okay, so after our "hike" in the morning we went back to our hotel where Alden napped for an hour or so and then we got ready to go to the beach.  We had heard there was a nice beach in Jungmun resort and so we headed over there.  It just so happened that we were there on the first day that they were allowing swimming on the beach which meant there were lots of people there.  However, since we weren't really interested in swimming we just went to the edge of the swimming area where it was less crowded.

Alden was very content to sit in the stroller and just watch the ocean.

We took Alden into the water and just put his feet in but he didn't really like it.  Here are a couple videos of it.  Video 1     Video 2

After visiting the beach for a little bit we went over to a place called Pacific Land to see a Monkey, Seal and Dolphin Show.  It ended up being a little funny and entertaining.  But, I have to admit that Drew and I both just felt sorry for the monkeys.  They all just looked so sad. Besides that we enjoyed the show and Alden enjoyed seeing all the animals!

This video will show the coolest thing that they had the monkeys do in my opinion.

Okay so this part of the show (with the ninja guy shown above) was pretty funny.  They had him come and steal this golden ring from one of the trainers.  I think the golden ring was supposed to help make the seal more talented but I don't know for sure because they only spoke in Korean.  Then the ninja snuck into the audience to hide.  Eventually someone from the audience who was recruited pulled the ninja back onto stage to return the golden ring.  It is hard to explain it but hopefully this video will help.  This video is when the ninja is still in the audience, but I don't understand why he was dancing if he is trying to hide but it was funny.  Okay and this video was from after the ninja got caught and returned the golden ring.  I don't really understand why he is dancing because didn't he just get caught?  Even though we didn't understand the ninja was funny and made the show a little more entertaining.

The last part of the show was the dolphins and it was fun when the trainers got in the water with the dolphins.  Here is a video of part of it.

Alden enjoyed watching all the animals!

So that was what we did on our Monday on the island.  We had a lot of fun and let Alden have some new experience like sticking his feet in the ocean, even if it wasn't his favorite thing.  I think Alden's favorite thing of the whole day was getting to see all the animals.  I still have one more day in Jeju to post about, so that will be coming soon!
