So on our second day on Jeju Island we drove about 1 hr and 20 min around to the east side of the island to visit Kimnyoung Maze Park, Manjanggul Cave, Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, Seopjikoj and a Folk Village. It was a very full day but we had a lot of fun and saw a lot of new things that were interesting. Alden had a good day and loved our first stop, the maze. He thought that it was so much fun trying to touch all the leaves that stuck out along the edge of the maze walls. Of course that meant that going through the maze took a long time, but we didn't really care. Here are the pictures from the maze park.
Alden and Daddy getting started in the maze.
Alden trying to touch the twigs.
Alden got this cute little moth to land on his shoe.
Speeding up the walk through the maze for a little bit by putting Alden on Daddy's shoulders.
Climbing the stairs with Daddy!
Alden got to ring the bell when we made it through the maze. Here is a video of it.
After finishing the maze we went right down the road to Manjanggul Cave, which is a lava tube cave that you can walk in for about 1 km. It was nice to go walk through the cave because it was really cool compared to being outside. Alden enjoyed being in the carrier and getting to cuddle up with Mommy to stay warm in the cave.
I know it is hard to see but this is the path we were walking on.
Feeding Alden his bottle while walking through the cave.
I know the picture of Drew is blurry but it was the best I could take in the cave with a squirming child against me.
So, as we were walking through the cave Drew had fun making funny videos and goofing off. Here is one of the videos that he made.
For some reason Drew felt the need to document the sign.
This is the lava column at the end of where you can walk in the cave. It was made when lave dripped down through the ceiling
Our stop for lunch at the restaurant right next to the cave before heading on to the next location.
After visiting the cave we headed back down the coast to a place called Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak or Sunset Peak. It is a peak right on the ocean that rose above the water in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago. We went and "hiked" to the top of the peak. I say "hike" because in Korea hiking just means putting in a ton of stairs and going straight up the mountain as you will see in the pictures I took at Hallasan mountain on Jeju. I forgot to take pictures of the stairs here. Sunset Peak was pretty, but it was hard to see anything while we were there because it was foggy and we hiked into the clouds. The pictures will show you what we did get to see.
The hike started out fairly flat with a good view of the beach.
It was already getting hard to still see the beach.
This was at the top of the mountain. You could barely see anything.
This is supposed to be a huge crater that is pretty and nice to walk around. It was so cloudy we couldn't see much at all. But it did keep the temperature somewhat cool.
This is looking back on where we walked.
Okay this is Drew with our ice cream treat and pointing to where we hiked to. Looks a lot different in the picture. =)
We had a blast visiting all these sights, even if the weather didn't always cooperate. It was fun to explore new places as a family and be away from work and stresses for a little while. I'll post more soon!
