It was fun seeing the ocean and hearing the waves crash as we walked. Alden enjoyed finding all of the slugs along the trail as we walked and it was neat to see the varying scenery from a constructed rock wall, sandy beaches, sand dunes, a pond, a lighthouse, a cute town and even as escaped bunny. It was a great way to start out our day in Westport.
The trail started here where you could see the rocks and ocean meeting. The tide was fairly high as we started out on our walk.
We climbed an observation tower near the start of our walk and looked out at the ocean and back at the small town of Westport.
Looking down the coast towards where we were going to walk.
Alden's first slug find and the view away from the beach on our walk.
I love mornings on the coast with the fog. I find it very relaxing and peaceful.
Anders got a nice little nap as we walked. He looked totally peaceful and well bundled!
It was fun being out as the sun was climbing higher in the sky and the fog started to burn off.
Alden enjoyed looking out towards the ocean and seeing the water.
At this point Alden decided he was ready to walk on his own and do some exploring. At this point we were walking through Westport Light State Park.
As we walked away (yes, I said away) from the beach we found this lighthouse. This is Grays Harbor Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in Washington. We went back and visited it again later in the day when it was open but it was fun to see it early in the morning.
We walked back through some small towns to get back to Westport and on our way we found this bunny that looked like it was probably someone's escaped pet.
We stopped at a little playground where Alden had fun playing for a little while.
Alden spent quite awhile figuring out how to climb around this thing and stay on it. He was so excited when he would make it to the next piece.
Alden was really excited when he figured out what this did and quickly got Daddy over to help him.
This seemed modeled after a hot-air balloon and when Drew spun a rod it would move between two platforms while Alden got to ride on it.
Anders woke up at this point and was a very happy boy!
When we all got back to our hotel room we were a little chilly from being outside for so long so we all huddled together around the electric fireplace in our room.
Anders was very content sitting with Daddy and watching the "fire." (I promise he was not actually close enough to touch it) This walk was a great way to start our day in Westport!
