4th of July

We had a lot of fun on the 4th of July this year just doing lots of things around our house and in the neighborhood.  We started off the day with the ward barbecue, which Drew unfortunately missed because he stayed home while they were finishing our new floor, then we went to Cabella's just to have fun looking around.  After that we came home and played in the little pool in our backyard because it was so hot and then we went over to a neighborhood party close to home and then just relaxed and watched fireworks for the rest of the night.  Alden loved the sparklers and pops this year and we had fun watching everyone else's fireworks.

This year I was definitely a little more nervous watching the fireworks in our neighborhood because all the plants and grass around us are really dry and so it would have been easy for something to catch fire.  But, luckily the only fire we heard about got put out pretty quickly and no one got hurt.

Alden had a great day playing with Mom and Dad and some of his friends and Anders was really happy all day.  It was a great holiday and I actually enjoyed just hanging out in our neighborhood most of the time because it meant things were less stressful and we didn't end up anywhere too crowded.

We started off the day letting Alden do a sparkler.
Here is a video of Alden doing his first sparkler.  I just love how Alden stands so still and looks a little bored while the firework is going and then wants to do another one at the end.

This was at the ward party.  They had a giant slip and slide that went down the whole hill.  Alden was too afraid to do it but would run through the sprinklers on the side.

They had pinatas for the kids to hit which Alden thought was awesome!

At Cabella's the highlight was getting to shoot the rifles in the shooting area.  Alden was so excited.
Anders was very content with his toy in his car seat.

After we got back from Cabella's we all decided to get a little wet because it was so hot outside.
Anders just sat in his little swing and watched us.

Alden had so much fun playing in his pool.  It is funny how much more he loves the pool than a bath.

Alden and I had fun playing catch together with a beach ball.  Alden thought it was really funny when he got to hit the ball back to me.

Alden and Daddy got out some snaps and had a lot of fun throwing them around together.
Alden and Daddy having fun with snaps together.
More snaps to throw and make pop.  Alden is so entertained by these!

Alden "helping" Daddy with fireworks.  We didn't have any big fireworks and Alden just watched Daddy light them and would then back up with him to watch.

Alden having more fun with his sparkler.  He was very good at standing still and keeping the sparkler out far away from his body.
I think Drew's favorite thing with the fireworks was his tank battle.  He had a lot of fun setting all the tanks up so that they would charge at each other when they went off.  It was pretty fun to watch.

All the kids got to be in a little "parade" up and down the street.
Alden was really excited to get to ride his bike in the parade.

All the kids from the parade and I just love how big Alden's smile was.
Alden liked all the tank and car fireworks.
A little fountain firework that Alden had fun watching.
Drew being a good Dad and making sure that Alden stays far enough back.

The lasts ones they set off were all the smoke balls.

Anders just had a great time sitting in his stroller and playing with his toy.

I love how he got one of the rings on his wrist like a bracelet so it is easier for him to hold on to it.
 He is just so happy!
Lighting off a whole bunch of smoke balls at once.

Alden watching our last few fireworks go off.
Alden even got to make the popper go off on his own!
After our fireworks were gone he was perfectly happy to settle down in his chair and eat a snack while he watched everyone else's fireworks.
Eventually Alden got tired enough he wanted to go to bed and so we went home and put him in bed and he proceeded to go right to sleep.  Anders was soon to follow so Drew and I got to sit outside and watch the fireworks while our boys slept.  It was nice and I was impressed our boys could sleep through all the fireworks.

There were some very nice shows going on around us.

This just shows the embers from a firework coming down right over our house.  This is why we had our hose convenient at all times.
It was fun watching all the fireworks but in all honesty I was glad when they stopped for the night and I could relax.  We had a really nice 4th of July relaxing and spending time with family and friends.
